When your doctor declined giving you PSA testing you should have seen another doctor . While most men have little need for concern before age 50 testing is recommended starting at age 40 for men with a family history of prostate cancer and African Americans . But I doubt if even testing a year ago would have helped much . You are correct in assuming it has been there several years .
I recently had a biopsy when I had a PSA of 7 . My urologist said the cancer is curable and there is no rush to decide on treatment . My heart goes out to you and your family . Your situation is very rare and I don't know how there could have been detection that was early enough to allow a cure .
